Order Information & Terms
of Business
(and some general chit-chat).
Your guarantee
As a pipe enthusiast myself, I don't think it is fair to expect you to buy a pipe on the
strength of a photo. I know that before you can be sure a pipe will be right for
you, you have to inspect it from every angle, fondle it a little and maybe live with it
for a while.
So I offer a complete guarantee. If for any reason, the pipe you
select fails to live up to your expectations, just send it back, unsmoked and in saleable
condition and I will refund your money by return post.
How to reserve a pipe.
You can reserve any pipe by e-mail, fax or phone. I will
confirm availability by return and then hold the pipe for you until your payment
arrives. Pipes are always dispatched within 48 hours of receipt of payment - usually
within 24 hours.
Payment can be made by:
1. Visa MasterCard and other major credit
cards, online, via
PayPal.
This free service has been available in America for some time, but has been
extended to many countries around the world. For further
information, go to www.paypal.com,
or click on any of the PayPal logos dotted around this site. In my
opinion this is an excellent way to buy and sell over the 'net as it offers an
extra layer of security over conventional credit card transactions.
If you are using PayPal, you may need to convert the sterling price shown, into US
dollars.
The easy way to do this is to use the Universal Currency Converter
2. Sterling cheque, drawn on a UK bank.
This is the ideal way to pay if you have a UK bank account. If you live
overseas, PayPal is probably the best option.
3. Sterling banknotes (If sending cash, please use
registered post).
4. Major Currency banknotes - go to Universal Currency Converter for the rate of exchange. (If sending cash, please use registered
post). My bank does not charge me for crediting foreign banknotes to my
account - so there is no surcharge to pay.
5. Bank Draft (cashier's cheque) written in sterling (GB pounds).
Watch out for the charges your bank may levy for this service. Some banks
charge a lot, some are more benign...
6. International Money Order written in sterling, (GB pounds).
7. Direct Credit Transfer. (Details on application).
8. Western Union Money Transfer. Click here to see if this service is
available in your country. It probably is - the service operates in China,
Russia and India - if it works there, it should work anywhere! Be aware
that Western Union is not be the most economical way of sending money around the
world.
My local Western Union Agent is "The Old Post House" Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks,
England. If you live in the USA, you don't even have to go to a Western Union office
- you can use your credit card to make a Western Union Money Transfer, online.
To find out more, go to http://www.westernunion.com/
Please note that cheques, drafts, etc should be written in sterling (British
pounds). Foreign currency cheques take forever to clear - and my bank
takes a big bite out of them.
Post and Packing costs
UK customers please add £2.00 per pipe toward the cost of
post and packing. Customers living outside the UK should add £6.00 for the first pipe,
plus £2.00 for each additional pipe ordered. I have never had a pipe go astray
(or get damaged) in
the post, but if you would like your purchase shipped by registered post or insured
carrier, let
me know and I will be happy to advise the additional cost.
Exchange rates
All prices on this site are shown in sterling (GB pounds). To convert this to your own
currency, please click here: Universal Currency
Converter This is a handy site which will convert any value in pounds
sterling into your own currency. The rates shown are
"commercial" - so the amount shown might be slightly different to that
offered by your local bank. Please note that this utility is "off
site", so be ready to press your "back" button to return here.
Please send your payment to:
Clive Humm
243 Berkhampstead Road
Chesham,
Bucks,
HP5 3EQ
England.
Chatter
If you want any further information, or just want to talk pipes, send me an e-mail,
or give me a call. The
number for both phone and fax is 01494 810187 from within the UK, or +44 1494
810187 from
everywhere else in the world.
But as this is a hobby business, please note that my "office
hours" are 9.30 p.m. until midnight. (At other times, you can leave a
message). On Friday nights I may not be by the phone until around 10 p.m., and
you won't get me at all on a Sunday evening.
Personal Inspection
My pipes are often available for personal inspection at meetings of the Pipe Club of London, which are usually held on the third Thursday of the month. I
always attend the annual British Pipesmoking Championship, (For
details of the next Championship, contact Martin McGahey mcm@the-tobacconist.co.uk )
and I'll be at the Norfolk Pipesmoking Competition in October
2003 (For details of this event contact Mr Keith Garrard,
18 Florence Road, Thorpe Hamlet, Norwich NR1 4BJ). I also tend to pop up
unexpectedly at other pipesmoking events in England and around Europe. I look
forward to meeting you!
